Book Review: Northumbria's Lordly Strand, by Frank Graham
A fairly brief survey of the Northumberland coast from Berwick-on-Tweed to Chirton (the latter a somewhat arbitrary destination just west of Tynemouth). The text is a local history mixture of human and architectural interest. It's nothing special but I think the time was right to go through it after my trip back there last year. The largest sections in the book are on Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands. It's interesting to read how many villages are described as "major settlements" in earlier times, often destroyed by Viking or Scots raiders and never fully recovering. Well illustrated (in black and white) but now looking somewhat dated.
