I had a "card read error" at one of the ticket machines in Reading station yesterday. When I retried it said "transaction declined". I also had a card read error for the station car park machine. Yet this morning, when I rang Nationwide to ask them to replace the card (which they've said they'll do), they tell me the purchase of a rail ticket was approved yesterday. I'll have to wait for the statement to arrive, but I'm not at all happy about that.
