I've enjoyed Andrew Marr's The Making of Modern Britain series. I think he has made good choices in compromising between breadth and depth, trying to convey the big picture but also picking out a selection of smaller details. Matt Frei's Berlin was fair but not brilliant in my view - of the three episodes, the one on architecture was probably the best. And, some time ago, David Heathcote presented a series on BBC4, Art Deco Icons. The subjects of the programmes themselves were interesting, but Heathcote suffered from (as the Independent put it) looking "like James May's older brother". For all that Heathcote may be a professional historian, it left me with the feeling that May would have appeared a better presented and more knowledgeable presenter.
