Morris Oxford
Book Review: Oxford, by Jan Morris
The spine of this book simply says "Morris Oxford", and no doubt this is no coincidence. Indeed, the main influence on the city documented in the book, apart from the University itself, is the motor industry of W R Morris (later Lord Nuffield). This is a highly enjoyable and well researched collection of anecdotage, dipping into history, geography and culture. If I have any complaint about this edition, it is that it was revised in the 1980s by Jan's son Mark; not that he has done a bad job of it, but it is by now out-of-date again, and I have the feeling it might have been better left as it was originally written in the 1960s.
