On Saturday morning, having considered a number of options, we decided to park in the station car park at Cambridge and take the train to Ely; by Reading standards at least, £3.60 for all-day parking was definitely a bargain. Ely Cathedral was interesting to see, though Oliver Cromwell's house didn't appeal so we passed that opportunity and returned to Cambridge after lunch to do some college-spotting. Of those that were open, we took in Downing, Jesus, St John's, before collecting rosamicula and heading on to uitlander's house-warming proper, where we met up with Frances, the altariels, a half-expected work colleague who generously provided a lift back to the Travelodge, and a mix of old and new acquaintances.
Today, we returned to Cambridge to do a bit more tourist stuff, and visited Trinity, Clare, and King's College Chapel. Many of the colleges were closed because it's exam time, or perhaps just because they feel like it (see also Oxford, but it's different with an alumni card). Still, it's best to leave some for a return visit. I have overdosed on Vitamin D over the weekend but I see the forecast assures me this weather is only going to last for another day or so.
