Book Review: Flatland - A Romance of Many Dimensions, by Edwin A. Abbott
I didn't really find this particularly engaging; in fact I found the language often quite painful and dated. Even the mathematical aspects of the story are presented rigidly, and though the Square's journeys to other "worlds" give that character an open mind, every other character is a faithful and blinkered follower of his or her own doctrine. Apparently it is in part supposed to be a satire, but I don't have the detailed knowledge about Victorian society to see much in the way of reference points, so I have probably missed quite a lot there.
