Black and Gold

Today kharin and I visited the RHS gardens in Wisley. The day was pleasant, though perhaps a little chilly, and there was some autumn colour, both in the form of falling leaves and in a substantial planting of autumn crocuses. The main building, or "laboratory" as it is known, is an attractive travel in hyperreality, being an authentic Tudor mansion constructed between 1914-16.

Of course, like any other respectable tourist venue, there is Ye Olde Gifte Shoppe. But being a garden venue, there is also Ye Garden Centre. Single-handedly propping up the British economy, I have purchased a phyllostachys aurea for £35, and an ophiopogon nigrescens to go with it (for the more reasonable sum of £4.50). The days of the ivy are numbered!
