Book Review: Cooking with Fernet Branca, by James Hamilton-Paterson
This was an excellent choice as holiday reading - light-hearted and entertaining. Ghost writer Gerald Samper thinks he has found his idyll in Chiantishire, only to discover his neighbour Marta from the ex-Soviet Union disturbs him with her music. The two lock horns in a variety of duels, and the narration frequently flips from one protagonist to the other, which is especially entertaining. Without issuing spoilers, I can say that the story proceeds in a farcical manner, with an increasingly unlikely cast list and regular laugh-out-loud moments.
